About us
The Institute of Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology (IPMB) is concerned with the development, investigation and application of active substances and drugs as well as the elucidation of molecular and cellular mechanisms of action. It belongs to the Faculty of Engineering and is a scientific institution of the Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg.
Our institute is characterized by its multidisciplinary orientation, which enables us to investigate complex questions in the field of pharmacy and molecular biotechnology holistically. Our researchers come from various disciplines such as pharmacy, chemistry, biology and engineering and work closely together to develop innovative solutions for current challenges in the life sciences.
A central concern of the IPMB is to offer excellent training opportunities for students and young scientists. Through a broad spectrum of courses, internships and research projects, our students receive a sound education that prepares them for a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry, academic research or other areas of biotechnology.
Our research focuses include drug development, research into new therapies for diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative diseases, the development of drug carriers and research into biotechnological processes for the production of drugs and other biologically active substances.
In addition, the IPMB is actively involved in promoting scientific exchange and cooperation at national and international level. We maintain partnerships with leading research institutions, universities and companies worldwide to share our research results, develop joint projects and promote the transfer of scientific knowledge into practice.
The Institute of Pharmacy and Molecular Biotechnology in Heidelberg stands for excellent research, innovative teaching and close cooperation with the pharmaceutical industry and other partners in the field of life sciences. We are proud to contribute to the improvement of health and quality of life and look forward to continuing to generate new insights and share our knowledge in the future.
